When Pigs Fly: Safeguard the Good Stuff

When traveling with your favorite whiskey make sure you have your pigs in a row to make sure there are no complications with travel. TSA allows you to travel with your favorite whiskey both checked and as a carry on (depending on size of course).

  • Carry On Bags - Yes (Less than or equal to 3.4oz/100 ml allowed). Mini bottles of alcohol in carry-on must be able to comfortably fit into a single quart-sized bag.
  • Check Bags - Alcoholic beverages with more than 24% (48 proof) but not more than 70% (140 proof) alcohol are limited in checked bags to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per passenger and must be in unopened retail packaging. Alcoholic beverages with 24% (48 proof) alcohol or less are not subject to limitations in checked bags.

Airlines and the FAA ask that you do not drink personal whiskey while flying. Be sure to check your airline’s website to align on all the rules they may have as well.

For more information, see FAA regulation: 49 CFR 175.10(a)(4) or check out the TSA Blog.
